Thank WV Senate President Mitch Carmichael for Supporting the West Virginia Fairness Act!
For over 20 years, Fairness West Virginia and allies across the state have worked to pass statewide legislation protecting LGBTQ people from discrimination. Next year could be historic. According to a new op-ed in the Charleston Gazette, Senate President Mitch Carmichael will call for a vote on the West Virginia Fairness Act—a strong show of bipartisan support from the leader of the Senate.
Now is the time to move fairness forward in West Virginia. No one should be denied a job, a place to live, or other opportunities because of who they are or who they love. Our economy and our communities are stronger when everyone is free to make a living and support their family without fearing discrimination. But right now, West Virginia is one of 30 states with no explicit statewide LGBTQ nondiscrimination protections.
Thanks to Senator Carmichael, we are now closer than ever to passing these commonsense nondiscrimination protections in West Virginia.
Please help us thank Senator Carmichael for supporting the West Virginia Fairness Act. Let’s make sure he knows we’ll have his back when the 2020 legislative session starts in January.
After you send a message to state Sen. Carmichael, you’ll be asked to send a message to US Sen. Joe Manchin so he knows about this important work being done in his home state, and is encouraged to take action nationwide.
