Fairness West Virginia releases statement on legal challenge to trans athlete ban
CHARLESTON, West Virginia — Multiple groups filed a lawsuit Tuesday afternoon against the state of West Virginia over the recently passed House Bill 3293, a bill that bans transgender girls in middle school, high school and college from participating in school-sponsored sports that align with their gender identity.
Fairness West Virginia Executive Director Andrew Schneider released the following statement:
“As we said from the very beginning of the fight against House Bill 3293, banning transgender students from joining their peers on the court or on the field is unconstitutional. Transgender students deserve the chance to participate in school sports and learn all of the important life lessons that come along with it, like the value of hard work, team work, responsibility and the importance of physical fitness. We look forward to a federal judge striking down this law.”
