Invest in West Virginia’s future
this Give OUT Day

Today is Give OUT Day, the only national day of giving focused on investing in organizations like Fairness West Virginia that uplift and empower the LGBTQ community. Each dollar you give to Fairness funds our fight in the trenches against anti-gay attacks at the state Capitol.

We led the fight this year against a barrage of attacks against transgender West Virginians. While our advocacy kept the worst of the worst from becoming law — including proposals to ban teachers from mentioning LGBTQ people in classrooms and to ban doctors from providing gender affirming care to transgender people — we weren’t able to overcome an orchestrated national campaign to pass House Bill 3293.

With that bill, the Legislature banned young transgender girls from participating in school sports.

In the past few weeks, we’ve been working hard to help our partners at the ACLU of West Virginia file a lawsuit challenging this unconstitutional ban. The U.S. Department of Justice has weighed in — they say the law likely won’t be able to stand up to legal scrutiny.

And just yesterday we learned that the state of California banned state employees from traveling to our state because of this law.

That’s why we’re fighting everywhere: in the courts, in the Capitol, and in your community. Our work can’t happen without your support. Can you contribute $50 right now to keep this crucial work going?

The past year has been extremely challenging. Unlike many organizations, we rely almost entirely on small donations from generous supporters like yourself. The ongoing pandemic has made fundraising more challenging than ever before. But thanks to folks like you, we were able to pull through stronger than ever before.

Let’s continue to invest in West Virginia’s future by supporting these efforts.

Yours in Fairness,

Andrew Schneider
